The Bible Recap: A One-Year Guide to Reading and Understanding the Entire Bible

The Bible Recap: A One-Year Guide to Reading and Understanding the Entire Bible by Tara-Leigh Cobble I do not want to give this a star rating because I strongly feel the quality of a book like The Bible Recap depends on whether or not the reader uses it as the author intended. TBR is a wonderful supplemental material to utilize along with a read-through of the Bible. It is great for people who enjoy guided reading plans through the Good Book. It provides information readers might miss or not understand and points to helpful resources for additional study materials. However, I would not recommend using TBR as a "Cliff Notes for the Bible" rather than reading the actual Book itself. I also would not advise using it as the sole study tool for a Bible read-along. When it comes to Bible summations—especially those written by passionate Christians like TLC—it is almost impossible for an author not to sprinkle in a few of their own theological conclusions along the way. A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens My rating: 5 of 5 stars "I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach." View all my Goodreads "reviews."

My Heart

Image
My Heart by Corinna Luyken My rating: 5 of 5 stars "There are days it is broken, but broken can mend, and a heart that is closed can still open again." The text is lovely, but the artwork is what makes it perfect. It might be a children's book, but I think it is a good reminder for anyone suffering from a broken heart or going through a tough time... I know it helps me. ❧ View all my Goodreads reviews.

As I Lay Dying

Image
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner My rating: 4 of 5 stars As I Lay Dying is the kind of book I love and hate simultaneously. It is a visceral book written in an intentionally disjointed style, which is personally both annoying and engrossing for me. The Bundren's burdens are endlessly frustrating, but they also drag me in, and I feel just as obligated to finish the journey as they do. View all my reviews

Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales

Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales by Stephen King My rating: 5 of 5 stars For me the emotional payoff is what it's all about. I want to make you laugh or cry when you read a story ... or do both at the same time. I want your heart, in other words. If you want to learn something, go to school. – Stephen King "Variety's the spice of life," and there is certainly enough variety to make this collection of stories spicey. Each story had its own appeal, but my personal favorites were "Riding the Bullet," "1408," and "That Feeling, You Can Only Say What It Is in French." ❧ View all my Goodreads reviews.
